The first quote also reminds me of a story Covey told earlier in the book (habit 2, maybe)? He and his wife needed to learn to treat his son as someone who was capable and acceptable rather than someone who was poor at sports and sometimes an outcast. Eventually, his son became the person they envisioned and treated him as.
